You may have seen this fish before in your television screen or heard its name anywhere in world. Well, it’s one of a kind that you can’t forget. Lionfish is mainly seeing in marine under water. Sometimes you can see divers moving along with it. When you observe lionfish closely you can find some interesting characters. This fish is an average swimmer but can sprint when in critical situations. Lionfish can be seen in red or white colour with zebra crossing in its body. Lionfish are dangerous and poisonous. It’ll strike it opponents with needle like fins which is very painful. That strike injects venom on the victim. Lionfish is looking absolutely stunning and beautiful. But it can move fast and attack enemies. Lionfish does not using its fins as offensive. It is using it as defense mechanism just like any other natural organisms. Dragon fish, scorpion fish, turkey fish, and devil firefish are the other common names to lionfish. Lionfish population is almost stable in the world.

Lionfish is using as food in many countries. In fact, more commonly it using as an aquarium fish. And the spectacular look makes this fish more costly than other aquarium fishes. Lionfish is coming under the family Scorpaenidae and the subfamily pteroinae. Lionfish are mostly seen in indo- pacific region. Lionfish is not aggressive but the spontaneous reflex action makes this fish a perfect hunter. It is usually hunt its prey in the daytime. Even though its population is stable, lionfish causing major problems in the ecology such as decrease in the large number of its prey and problem to food chain. So, countries using the best eradication strategy ‘eat it’. So the expanding population that may cause future damage can be controlled. Some countries paying high prize for the divers to catch and eradicate this lionfish. The Volitan lionfish ( Pterois volitan) can be used as a pet in your aquarium. But you’ll need to find a large aquarium to grow this fish. You can buy this fish at nearby local store. Even if you buy this fish don’t play with it frequently. As I already mentioned the spine strike is extremely painful. Proceed with caution when you mess with lionfish.

I visit St. Martin often and suddenly Lion fish have made an appearance. Ugh!

I've always had an interest in Lion Fish. I'm not completely sure why; I mean obviously they're some extremely unique looking animals, but I've just always been drawn to Lion Fish inparticularly for some reason.

At the same time though, they're a bit scary looking. Maybe that's just part of the fascination for these fish though.
